2008 ASCA National Specialty

Like every Nationals, this has truley been a rollar coaster ride. I think I am now safley back on the ground where this wild ride began three years ago. As many already know, I have been the Entry Chair for the Nationals, receiving entries from all over the United States and from 13 foriegn countries. I used a database designed specifically to do entries for a show of this size but because it was a brand new program it came with a few glitches, none of which we didn't work thru. We had a total of aprox 4100 entries. For each of those entries an entry form and related releases were sent to me with the correct fees, and I added those to the data base including all the personal information for each owner, the breeder, color, birthdate, and sire and dam of each entry also had to be entered. Many sent RV reservations and catalog and logo merchandise orders to me as well. This infomation then needed to be distributed to the Venue Chairs and RV Coordinator. I packed the trailer well, washed the dogs and spent 12 days at the South Point Hotel in Las Vegas. Although this is close to home I spent anywhere from 12 to 24 hours a day in the show office itself, making the drive back and forth impossible, in order to help to make sure the Nationals ran smoothly. I wasn't sure that I would even find the time to show my own dogs so I arranged a handler just in case.... Thank you very much Cherrie Cannon, from Riverton Utah! The dogs fared well, I, hoping from the get go, to just have a nice show and maybe make the cuts. Better still, I need to have more faith in the dogs as they did very well, Slipper placed FOURTH in the Open Red.

Miss Tilly also did very well, (first time in the ring) WINNING her puppies!

Levi went along just for the ride and while there I had a nice photo taken of him as well!

After spending the last three years planning and the last six months working with entries and guarding them with my life, exhibitors from all over the world, eye clinics and DNA draws, catalogs and logo mercandise, obedience and genetics seminars, semen collection, potty stall duty , and many more things than possible to list... I AM DONE!

This past Saturday, the girls and I went to Las Vegas for the final awards / Christmas party fo SNAC. I carefully packed ALL the entries and Nationals Business in the back of the Expedition to deliver it to the Nationals Director, and from there be sent to ASCA in Bryan, Texas. It would be so nice to have it out of my home. Now remember, these are the entries that I have 'guarded with my life' for 6 months. When I arrived in Henderson I opened the back of the Expedition to get them and the wind grabbed them.... new meaning to Up on the Rooftops Reindeers Pause!!!! Yep the entries flew right out of the back, never touching the ground and over the rooftops, can you say neighbors swimming pool??? They flew for miles. I think I saw some of my entries blowing in the wind near the speedway on the way home. At first I panicked... then thought about how this could possibly even happen after being so careful and then I fell into histerical fits of laughter. So, if any of you reading this have entries that were included in the hundreds and hundreds that took flight... another day or two, they will get to Texas on their own!
